Time for a break :D

Assignments submitted, great birthday and a 3 week vacation, what a great week:D AND to top it all off my Wacom Cintiq 24HD arrived:)

Anyone who has any type of deadline will understand how liberating it feels to have work handed in on time, you feel alot lighter^^ So now I have 3 weeks off in which I will probably just keep practising and get used to my new Wacom. First impressions of the new Wacom are great, BIG, heavy, well constructed and super responsive. I’ve had a few people on forums ask me to do a review, I might in a week once I’ve had a decent amount of time with it. I’m also looking forward to our set of modules next semester which include Z-Brush and a level design group based assignment, which I do look forward to.

Submission week

This week is submission week, the week all my semester one assignments are due to be handed in. My time recently has been spent doing essays and just fine tuning my assignments before the hand in date. It’s going to be nice to have 3 weeks to do my own thing and play with my new toy (hopefully arriving tomorrow^^).

Also a new episode of Design Cinema has arrived thanks to the people over at FZDSchool. Watch it below.

7 days left!!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Not been doing a great deal of picture art over the last week. I have however been doing essays… everyone’s favorite… also been doing some texture work for my UDK scene which is now finished:D Infact I’ve just got the essays and a single image to touch up and that all my assignments done for this semester!

There is now 7 days left and all my year 2, semester 1 assignments will be out of the way AND only 8 days until my birthday:D

I am contemplating treating myself to a Wacom Cintiq 24HD as my current Trust TB-7300 is starting to show its age:/ that, and I have abit of a fetish for monitors!

January will hopefully abit of a relaxing month for me, with a good chunk of time between semester 1 and 2 to concentrate on some personal work or trying something new, like Z-Brush.

NEW YEAR INC!

2012 is closing in and with it the end of the world… or probably not…

I hope everyone had a great Christmas and I wish you a happy new year!

A new episode of Design Cinema has appeared thanks to the people at the FZD School, check it out below…

Also gonna throw in my small UDK Environment progress aswell as some art I’ve been doing recently between assignments.

WHERE IS THE SNOW?!?!

Got myself into a odd sleeping pattern recently, so I’m awake all night… It’s cool though because that means I get to watch the better casters on Twitch.TV:D

I’ve not been feeling to great neither which might be a contributing factor to the sleeping issue and because of this I’ve spread my work out. Before I post my WIP’s I want to plug another great website http://www.hourences.com/ created by Sjoerd “Hourences” De Jong. The website not only houses his portfolio but a wealth of readme tutorials, most of which are within UDK. Sjoerd “Hourences” De Jong also has authored books and DVD’s(via Eat3D) on various subjects. It’s a great little resource.

Here is some stuff I’ve been doing recently:)

WOOT! WOOP!

http://conceptships.blogspot.com/ is an awesome site which contains a plethora of art from great artists within the videogame and film industry. Vehicles, robots, tanks, sci-fi ships, environment… pretty much everything can be found on it and its sister sites. ConceptShips alone has amassed nearly 8 million pageviews since its creation back in 2008. It’s a great resource for any digital artist and I recommend anyone who is fan of the above subjects to have a look and follow it.

The great thing is 3 pieces of my art are now posted on there ^^ Check them out at the following links http://conceptvehicles.blogspot.com/2011/12/concept-vehicle-render-by-lance.html

Big thanks to Igor for posting them! <3 It made my Christmas:)

Posting some personal stuffs!

I created a page that will have some of the stuff I work on in my spare time. Some will be quick pieces of work for practice, others might have alot more time invested in them. Eventually, some may even be worked into portfolio pieces for my portfolio site(to be created at a later date.)

A quick 25 min piece, done because I want to work more on my environment art.

12 days til christmas!

I’ve had a pretty chilled weekend with all my assignment time pumped into my 3D work. I’ve been watching alot of Twitch.TV and played a couple of hours worth of video games.

Alot of my internet time over the weekend has been spent perusing the forums over at http://www.polycount.com/forum/. There are some great projects and resources available on this website, not only for the 3D artists as the name may suggest but there is also 2D content.

The Spike VGA awards also took place with TES:Skyrim netting ‘Game of the Year’ so GZ to the developers, I’m abit upset that The Witcher 2 won nothing. I implore anyone who enjoyed Skyrim to pick up Witcher 2 on PC(out on 360 next year I think) it has better graphics, solid gameplay, a compelling story and a great ending with about 30-40 hours worth of content(plus free content patches). I don’t know about anyone else’ but I thought the VGA’s sucked to be honest, it’s great the Game industry gets some type of award show but it was scrappy(teabagging developers wasn’t even funny… would you teabag Nolan or Spielberg for an award winning speech?!). Anywho rant over!

So between now and the beginning of January I’m to continue work on the 3 assignments with feedback given from my Milestones, which so far has all been great^^ I’ve created a very loose schedule that I’ll keep to to make sure each assignment is ticking over but factoring into account that some items need more work then others before I’m happy with them.

Here’s some more WIP shots of my 3D and Sci-Fi assignment stuff.

Milestones, SWTOR and nDo2.

Alot of time was spent recently prepping for a presentation and working on images for our 2D milestone, alot of pics regarding that below.

So that’s all the big milestones on this side of Christmas out of the way:D Over the weekend I played some of the SWTOR beta and am suprised at the quality of the game and it’s most probably something I will pick up and play casually for the story elements(as SW pwns).
Another thing to plug is a Photoshop plug in called nDo2 from Quixel. Here’s the release trailer for it.

If you’ve every used Crazybump or X-Normal you’ll get what nDo2 is about. The neat thing about nDo2 is that you don’t have to ever leave Photoshop to preview the normals, it has an open preview within the plug in and you can actually sculpt directly onto the normal map! This along with a plethora of other custom options makes for one hell of a normal map package. Ok it isn’t free, unlike X-Normal, but it alot nicer with far more customization, so I guess it boils down to how high a quality you want the final product.
