‘Victorian Laboratory’

3D assignment using 3DS Max for modelling, Photoshop for textures and UDK.

Here is the beginning of the planning process, after collating references(which are not posted here) I did some basic concepts and settled on a decent floor plan, of which might be changed throughout the creation process(I’ll probably go back and spice them up abit for display purposes). I then created a ‘Whitebox’ in 3DS Max and UDK.

Once I was happy with the rough design of the environment I started creating the assets to populate it.

I then changed the design of the environment slightly and started populating it with the assets I’d made.

After this stage our work was submitted for a milestone review, then using the feedback from that we had to build upon our work and make a start on the texturing and lighting processes.

Below are the final images that I took from UDK.

Like other assignments this during Semester 1, we were given a pretty loose theme and then alot of freedom to create. This assignment contained an entire environment workflow from concepting through to final product, it also touched on many different aspects like lightmaps, normal maps, material editor and so on. A very insightful and demanding assignment which pushed me to do things I’d never done before, it was immensely fun and well constructed. For the work above which also included a small essay, I netted an ‘A’ (1st) for this assignment.
